Canada Post 2012: Red River Settlement Commemorative 200 year anniversary1812-2012 stamp
Mark Heine was commissioned by Canada Post to create The Red River Settlement stamp. The largest figure is Lord Selkirk who established the Red River Settlement, bringing migrants from Scotland to work the colony. However the the Settlers were not prepared for the severe conditions of the Canadian winter and there was great hardship.

Special thanks to Heine's wife Lisa Leighton and her long association with the Langham Court Theatre in Victoria BC. Heine had access to the theatre costume loft and props department. The background characters are family friends who volunteered to pose in costume. The character in the centre wearing the white bonnet is Heine's wife.
