The back label writing ...
For the first time, an Orphan voice from Thinair penetrates her liquid world. A saltation emerges ... a rare leap in the otherwise slow crawl of evolution. A saltation of empathy so deep it cracks wide the ocean and the sunlight of possibility floods in. She must survive. She is the hope.
Writing has long been a integral part of Mark Heine's creative process. In the pursuit of his original artistic voice, Mark's writing has evolved to become the driving force behind his work and has led him to envision a world of his own creation. Sirens, the culmination of 38 years exploration, is inspired by the sea-nymphs, made famous in Homer's Odyssey. These underwater visions of mythological muse are rooted in the moments of an ongoing and developing fictional narrative. This complex narrative, involving human evolution and our natural environment, is the unifying conceptual thread that ties these surreal visions.
For the 6th consecutive year, two of my Sirens paintings have been selected as finalists in the 2023/2023, 16th ARC Salon presented by the Art Renewal Centre. This year "Shattered Peace" and "The Evolution of Empathy" were selected for this, the largest representational art competition in the world. The competition this year was tougher than ever with 5400 entries from 73 countries.
Winners of the 16th Salon will be announced January 5th, 2023
