A dark and stormy afternoon at Clover Point, on the waterfront in Victoria, BC. This my daughter Sarah, age 13. We’ve come to feed the sea gulls some bread, a regular pastime for us. They flock in the hundreds and in a high wind, such as this, will hover just feet away. It’s a bit intimidating. I tell Sarah that there’s no danger, but soon after an over-eager bird get hold of her finger and even draws a little blood. This pastime is for the birds. Mark Heine
