At the north end of Chesterman Beach near Tofino, B.C., we’re looking south, at low tide, toward Frank Island in the distance. Frank Island holds a lot of karma for me, even though the new owners have chained it off to visitors. Lisa, Sarah, Charlotte and I are building memories of this special place, with each summer. This one, 2009, was the summer of the Humboldt squid invasion, tadpoles, surfing the big waves, and Charlotte’s first surf-kayak adventure.
