Maelstrom, study
20"X20" oil on canvas Available For information ... Contact Peninsula Gallery ... [email protected] The story point ... Sarah tests the current of the ebbing tide. The vortex of the ancient Maelstrom swirls over her foot and she can imagine how powerful its core must be. Once caught in its grip, there would be no escape until you reach the other side. She knew it led somewhere, but once you got there, was there a way back? The fossil covered shoreline and hand carved petroglyphs were proof of it's antiquity. She was struck with the sense that this gateway was not a naturally occurring phenomenon. Writing has long been a integral part of Mark Heine's creative process. In the pursuit of his original artistic voice, Mark's writing has evolved to become the driving force behind his work and has led him to envision a world of his own creation. Sirens, the culmination of 44 years exploration, is inspired by the sea-nymphs, made famous in Homer's Odyssey. These underwater visions of mythological muse are rooted in the moments of an ongoing and developing fictional narrative. This complex narrative, involving human evolution and our natural environment, is the unifying conceptual thread that ties these surreal visions. |
