Thousands of barrels of Alberta oil-sands crude – the same stuff destined for the controversial Keystone XL project – spilled into a suburban Arkansas neighbourhood over the weekend...

The latest in a series of “spills-that-can-never happen”, happened in the past week. So the politics... What would the defeat of the  proposed Keystone Pipeline mean to me in BC? My thinking is if this Keystone Pipeline is defeated, more pressure comes to bear on approval of the proposed Northern Gateway Pipeline.

If they can’t build a pipeline that doesn’t leak, what’s the likelihood of an oil tanker that’s unsinkable? There once was a state-of-the-art ship advertised as unsinkable. So unsinkable was it, that they didn’t bother including sufficient lifeboats for all the passengers. Apparently they made the deck look cluttered. We all know the highly nostalgic and romantic story of the maiden voyage of Titanic. Perhaps in 70 years we’ll get to see a romantic depiction of the sinking of Exxon Valdez.

I have the solution to the whole problem. If we all move to Fort McMurray, Alberta. Then they won’t need to transport the oil at all...
